G-Rock Rocks the Bayou!

Rock The Bayou has collaborated with G-Rock in providing an environment that is both fun and sustainable. G-Rock is an environmental consulting group dedicated to providing 100% sustainability for music, art and event venues. G-Rock provides a full service collaborative approach to greening with participation from vendors, local businesses, academic institutions, waste management services and advertising markets by incorporating green practices into their business models. The result is substantial reduction of energy and resource consumption, lowering of greenhouse gas emissions, and the creation of healthier environments in which to work, live and learn. We are passionate about contributing to a cleaner greener planet and can proudly say Rock The Bayou will be G-Rock Certified!

Intiatives:

Biodegradable Food Ware

Currently, Houston is spending about $900,000 annually disposing of waste into increasingly limited landfills. These landfills are releasing huge quantities of Greenhouse Gases (GHG), contributing to Houston's rating as the highest producer of GHGs, generating over 18.6 million tons of GHG per year. By implementing a recycling program, all plastic products will be diverted from landfills, decreasing the generation of GHGs, and adding to a more sustainable environment.

Benefits:
  • Reduced carbon footprint associated with landfills
  • Reduced dependency on foreign fossil fuels
  • Reduced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions
  • Ability to reuse non-renewable resources
  • Preservation of the local Houston environment

New Energy Fuels, Inc. engages in the production, distribution, and sale of renewable fuels, with a focus on biodiesel fuel, in the United States. It produces pure biodiesel fuel (B100) through the utilization of vegetable oils, such as soy and canola oil as raw material.

Citizens' Environmental Coalition is a 38- year-old organization that facilitates communication and cooperation between approximately 100 environmental groups and programs in Harris and surrounding counties by publishing a weekly e-newsletter, an annual resource guide, a website with events calendar, and several special events. We also work to inform the general public to about these groups and programs.

Solio has been designed to harness the sun's energy, shortening the process of transforming it into electricity by using photovoltaic cells (PVs). PVs convert sunlight into electricity that can be used immediately. The process is clean, fast, noiseless, and-thanks to Solio-easily portable.

The sun's energy is so powerful that in just 1 hour the amount of energy that falls on the earth equals the amount used by the world's population in a whole year.

Here's how it works. Light from the sun hits the solar cells, exciting electrons within the cell. Some of them break free, and are channeled through a conductive metal strip to create an electric current. This current can either be stored in a battery or used directly in the form of electricity. The stronger the sunlight and the more rays that hit the cell, the more electricity is generated.

Green Team

The G-Rock Green Team is a group of highly motivated volunteers helping Rock The Bayou reduce its carbon footprint. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in G-Rockšs sustainability program, which includes an initiative to divert substantial amounts of waste from landfills. Green team volunteers will be proactive in helping the collective efforts of Rock The Bayoušs environmental initiatives by providing information and support for festival participants in green-waste collection, recycling efforts, biodiesel use, and more. Volunteers will be able to attend the music festival at no charge and most importantly actively participate in the greening program! To sign up to become a volunteer 'click' on the volunteer link and complete the Volunteer Application Form (please indicate Green Team in the "position" section).
